lotto prize to expire dec. 31

12/7/2009
(PIERRE, SD) - Time is running out for the holder of a winning Powerball ticket to claim $10,000 before the end of the year.

The ticket, sold in Castlewood, expires on Dec. 31. Officials with the South Dakota Lottery say it matched four of the five white balls and the red Powerball in the July 4, 2009 drawing. The winning numbers were 4, 9, 22, 41, and 44. The Powerball was 14 and Power Play was 3.

Lottery executive director Norm Lingle urges players to check any old Powerball tickets they may have stashed away to determine if they have the winning ticket.

$10,000 would make a great Christmas gift for whoever is still holding on to the winning ticket. We would hate to have someone miss out on collecting the prize so were encouraging people who have lotto tickets issued from that time to bring them in to their local lotto retailers and get them checked, Lingle said.

Lingle says if a player does have the winning ticket, they should sign the back of it as soon as possible and bring it in to their nearest lottery office before the deadline.

Lotto prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing and can be claimed at any of the three Lottery offices which are located in Pierre, Rapid City and Sioux Falls. If the prizes go unclaimed, state law requires the money to go back to players by funding prizes in subsequent lottery games.
