On a New LOTTO MAX selection slip, mark seven numbers from 1 to 49 that you want to play, or check the Quick Pick box and the numbers will be randomly chosen by the lottery terminal. For each set of numbers played, the lottery terminal will generate two additional sets of numbers. You can play up to five times per ticket. Seven numbers plus one bonus number are drawn for the LOTTO MAX Main Draw. Seven numbers are drawn for each MAXMILLIONS Draw, when held. Match the numbers drawn to win. If you want to play for more than one draw, mark the number of draws in the Advance Play box. If you would like to play ENCORE, mark the number of ENCORE plays you would like to add to your ticket. Each play costs $1. Click here to learn how to play ENCORE.
Forty-eight per cent of LOTTO MAX draw sales is dedicated to the Prize Fund. The total amount of $20 and Free Play prizes is paid from the Prize Fund, and the balance of the fund (the Pools Fund) is then allocated to the 5/7, 6/7, 6/7 + Bonus and 7/7 prize categories as indicated in the table below. If there is more than one winner in the 5/7, 6/7, 6/7 + Bonus or 7/7 prize categories, the prize in that category will be shared among the winners in that category. Any amount not won in the 7/7 or 6/7 + Bonus prize categories is added to the 7/7 prize category for the next draw.
| Matches | Win | Odds of Winning Per $5 Play (approximate) |
| 7/7 | 87% of the Pools Fund | 1 in 28,633,528 |
| 6/7 + Bonus | 4% of the Pools Fund | 1 in 4,090,504 |
| 6/7 | 4% of the Pools Fund | 1 in 99,768 |
| 5/7 | 5% of the Pools Fund | 1 in 1,584 |
| 4/7 | $20 | 1 in 71.3 |
| 3/7 + Bonus | $20 | 1 in 76.7 |
| 3/7 | Free Play ($5 value - three sets of computer-generated numbers) | 1 in 8.1 |
| Any prize | 1 in 6.6 |
A winning set of numbers for the LOTTO MAX Main Draw entitles a winner to a prize in only one of the above prize categories.
| Matches | Win | Odds of Winning Per $5 Play (approximate) |
| 7/7 | $1,000,000 | 1 in 28,633,528 |
The amount of the 7/7 prize category for the LOTTO MAX Main Draw is capped at $50 million (the 7/7 Cap). When the amount of the 7/7 prize category for any given draw exceeds $50 million, each $1 million in excess of the 7/7 Cap is drawn as a separate $1-million MAXMILLIONS prize. For each MAXMILLIONS Draw, seven numbers are drawn from among all numbers from 1 to 49. Players must match all seven numbers drawn to win a MAXMILLIONS prize. If there is more than one winner in a MAXMILLIONS Draw, the MAXMILLIONS prize will be shared among the winners in that draw.
Any excess of the 7/7 prize category for any given draw over the 7/7 Cap, less all $1-million MAXMILLIONS prizes available for that draw, will be added to the 6/7 + Bonus prize category for such draw or, if the 6/7 + Bonus prize category is not won, will be added to the 7/7 prize category of the next draw. Any amount not won in a MAXMILLIONS Draw(s) is added to the 7/7 prize category of the next draw.
Example 1: Amount of the 7/7 prize category reaches $55,500,000.
Example 2: Amount of the 7/7 prize category is less than $50 million
The prize pool for the LOTTO MAX Main Draw and MAXMILLIONS Draw(s) is based on a pari-mutuel share. A pari-mutuel share is a calculation in which the total monies allocated to a prize category are divided by the total number of winners in that category. Sometimes, customers select certain number combinations more often than other number combinations, which may result in a greater number of winning tickets and a lower prize share. Some of the more popular combinations are based on sequences of numbers, vertical, horizontal or diagonal lines on selection slips, multiples of numbers, variations of historic dates or birth dates, etc. These combinations vary from draw to draw and change depending on customer play patterns.
LOTTO MAX Main Draw prizes and MAXMILLIONS prizes must be claimed within 12 months of the draw date.
Unclaimed prizes from national games (i.e., LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49) are returned to players through future bonus games or promotions. These funds are held separately from Ontario-only games and are administered by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation.
LOTTO MAX winning tickets purchased in Ontario can be redeemed only in Ontario.
